Sphericity of soil particles (related to the volume)
Description
Sphericity is a measure of how spherical (round) an object is. The sphericity of a sphere is 1 and, by the isoperimetric inequality, any particle which is not a sphere will have sphericity less than 1.
The sphericity of a particle is the ratio of the actual volume of a particle to the volume of the sircumscrimbing sphere.
Variables
ψ | Sphericity (dimensionless) |
Vp | Actual volume of a particle (measured by immersion in water) (m3) |
Vcs | Volume of sircumscrimbing sphere (the diameter of the sphere considered the longest dimension of the particle) (m3) |
